Rather Unique
January 7th - February 19th 2012

New for 2012, Woodward Gallery invites Harlem-based street Artist Royce Bannon as their first-ever guest curator for an exhibition with rather unique art.

This exhibition will highlight a group of trendsetting artists who stand out in street and graffiti genres. The artists include: Cassius Fowler, Celso, Chris RWK, Cope2, Darkcloud, H.veng.Smith, Indie184, infinity, KA, Keely, Kenji Nakayama, Kosbe, Matt Siren, Moody, Nose Go, Royce B, Russell King, UR New York, Veng, and Wrona.

While how they each create differs, they are commonly driven to share art with their peers without-constraints. This public focus has afforded the group to experiment and redefine their creativity with instant feedback and inspiration from colleagues.

Bannon selected these few for their resolve and commitment. They have worked obsessively over the years to get their public art recognized.

Each one of them has a rather unique style that I really can’t compare to any one else’s. If I mention a Darkcloud, a Matt Siren, or a Cope2 you know exactly what I’m talking about- even if you’re not into the scene- you can see their (iconic) images in your head… Everyone does wheat paste, and stickers, or (tag) throw ups, but this group of artists…make what they do really pop.

Woodward Gallery acknowledges these most contemporary of artists and their contribution to the
new world of art.

Located at 39 West 24th st. New York NY 10010 lies San Rocco a trendy Italian restaurant in the heart of Manhattan's Flat Iron District.

A restaurant which prides itself on its design, decor and cuisine.

We were flattered when we were approached to paint a 2 story mural on the restaurant's exterior.

Forced to deal with some obstacles like building scaffolding as well as

creating our largest piece of art to date we were up for the challenge.

Here are some progress shots..

2 days later and countless cans of paint emptied we completed ahead of schedule and had a chance to indulge in some relax time at the restaurant.

Another satisfied client and a great piece of art added to the New York landscape we are once again reminded how much we love our jobs.

If you strolled by Washington Square Park yesterday , you may have heard air-raid sirens going off and noticed people running into bomb shelters. The multimedia installation is meant to replicate a rocket-strike experience that happened last week in Jerusalem.

The exhibit is sponsored by the Birthright Israel Alumni Community, who commisioned NYC graffiti legends COPE2, SKI, 2ESAE and KA to decorate the shelters.

Comfortable Being Uncomfortable...

Sometime ago we had the chance to link up with Diana Redman an artist from Tel-aviv, Israel. On her trip to New York City we ventured underground to visually capture the Freedom tunnels. An historic haven for graffiti artist and urban adventurers alike...

Here are some photos from that cold winter night so long ago...

The tunnels were built during the 1930's and weren't actually used till the 80's for freight trains to pass underground along the Hudson River Park. Over the years those same tunnels meant for freight trains also became shantytowns for many homeless people in New York City.

The Freedom tunnels acquired its name from graff' legend Chris 'Freedom' Pape. Who made this his underground layer for many years. He painted & recreated many famous murals during his time underground in the tunnels.

In the 90's Amtrak took over ownership of the tunnels and started evicting the homeless and sealing most of the openings. Trying to discourage people from going underground and further more putting an end to a great era.

But that still doesn't stop people from going underground to explore these famous tunnels.

Im sitting here thinking of how to begin this blog which might be the most important blog series yet which will be posted monthly.

I have to admit more than 3 years ago when we first hit the streets of soho

with no money, no idea where this would lead, and a open mind, I never would of thought it would get to this point.

With countless pieces sold we show our love and respect to the individuals who find joy from our work.

I love taking photos of our collectors and stirring up conversation which help us learn who they are in the same right helping us learn more about ourselves.

Cookies -n- Cream presents ToyStreet. ToyStreet is a grassroots event that aims to connect toy collectors, artists, vendors and people who share the same interests, in a unique experience where they can buy/sell/trade designer toys and other related merchandise such as art, clothing, handcrafted goods, sneakers etc. The goal is to foster more of a personal interaction between artists/brands/collectors/customers in a fun setting, and build a community of people who all appreciate creativity and the arts.

ToyStreet will take place in New York City on April 2nd, 2010 from 4pm - 9pm. The location of the event is 268 Mulberry Street (Between Prince St & Houston St) and is easily accessible by a number of different subway stations. We're also happy to have some of the most prominent designer toy blogs as sponsors for ToyStreet. - SpankyStokes, Vinyl Pulse, Toys R Evil, Plastic and Plush.

Here's just a teaser of what to expect:

Booths with exclusive items by respected artists/toy designers such as TooFly, Sucklord, Dave Cortes (Inu Art/Pugzee) just to name a few. Brands like GoodWood offering one time exclusive items that will only be available at ToyStreet....and many more artists/brands/toy collectors!

Live music performances by the hard rocking Brooklyn band Shinobi Ninja and a special guest. Also, live painting by NYC street art collective URNewYork and Lee Iturbe.

I have to admit I was totally not into painting toys until i actually did some

and I must say I can see how they can become addicting.

Miami based artist Miguel Paredes to bring you a fresh look

From 3 point of views spanning 3 era's of New York inspired works.

We present 1 brush and 2 spray cans

which runs from March 24-April 12, 2010 at Gallery Bar NY.

"Individually, Paredes and the team of Baca and Romero have built international followings for themselves, but a chance meeting at Miami’s Art Basel 2009 became a motivating and connective component for collaboration. Having grown up walking the same urban NY streets and literally breathing the same air during their formative years as artists they were astonished to find how much their ground for imagining and personal expression intertwined. Although they were raised in different decades and had traveled separate paths the commonality of purpose, personality and intellectual aspiration was as compelling as it was mysterious. The more they talked the more they recognized how their mutual passions for artistic rebirth and renewal, their collective memories, and their belief in modeling creative innovation for new generations, had given dawn to something new, gritty and forceful for them to explore together. Within days an astonishing trust, based in shared values and intentions, had developed and the three artists found themselves painting into each other’s urban landscapes." -David Kent

This has definately been an interesting and inspiring collaboration for us
